On the March!

It's time to get myself off the dime.

I am making more short films as a consequence of taking the Introductory Digital Video course here at OCC. Where appropriate, these films shall be posted on my YouTube, Google Video, Vimeo, or other account as available and/or noted.

Nothing to it but to do it...

Cheers!

No Excuses for Excuses

Here we are...
It's almost the end of August. Labor Day weekend is just a week away.
My last post was July 1st.
There are no excuses.
Therefore I will offer none.
***

We've been at the People's Art Festival at the Russell Industrial Center and Bazaar in the old Murray Body complex next to Interstate 75. It's been... interesting, to say the least.
Sales haven't been much, but we've networked, and seen a few things.
Emergence Theater, another group we're involved with, is here, as well as a few artists we've known for a long time.
I'll try to do this more frequently...

Cheers!

I Missed Being Remiss...

It seems I haven't posted to this blog since last November.
That's far too long a time to not post anything, despite all the mitigating circumstances I could quote.
So, here's a new post, until I can update things even more.

Cheers!

ATTACK OF THE REAL LIFE!

ATTACK OF THE REAL LIFE! (First posted Sep 13 08)
With the best of intentions, as always, I designed this blog to be set forth at regular (read: SHORT) intervals. Maybe two or three days between entries.
As you can tell, that hasn't happened... thanks to that unpredictable item called {dramatic fanfare} Real Life.
The need for activities that have nothing to do with writing, or blogging, or any sort of creative impulse at all... deplorable, but unavoidable.
I have a completed short screenplay - 25 pages - that I think I'm going to try to make soon. I'm working on another one that may be going feature length. I've been applying for extra jobs and crew jobs here in the Detroit area. I've also been looking for "real work".
Things are going such that I'm doing a difficult balancing act... if things go off-kilter, you'll know. {The noise will cue you, for one thing.}
Cheers!

Truth - at 30i

Truth - at 30i (First posted Aug 17 08)
"There comes a time in the affairs of man, my dear Blubber, when one
must take the bull by the tail and face the situation."

William Claude Dukinfield (better known as W.C. Fields)
Said situation is the health - or lack thereof - of my wife, Megan, and
me. Without going into details, which I'm obligated not to do under both
the HIPAA law and the marriage vows we took, I'll merely say it sucks.
I am, and I can, however, keep doing what I can to fan the banked embers
of whatever creativity I have left. I'm editing footage, writing a
couple of screenplays, and looking for work.
There is also this blog, such as it is.

Thanks to an interview with Indy Mogul,
I've learned of a project that came about a little over a month ago from
Joss Whedon, the brain behind Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly,
and the movie version Serenity. It's called Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog, a three-episode web series starring Neil Patrick Harris, Nathan Fillion, and Felicia Day. I watched it, and it was pretty damn good. I also learned of Felicia Day's other projects, such as her web series The Guild, and her being a producer on Kim Evey's Gorgeous Tiny Chicken Machine Show. The Guild was something I mostly liked; the Gorgeous Tiny Chicken Machine just left me cold. Peter John Ross and George Caleodis did better with Uncle Pete's Play Time, which can be seen on Sonnyboo.com, among other places.
Those are my opinions. If you don't like them, I have others. (To misquote Groucho Marx.)

Cheers!

A Bit Remiss...

I stand here today accused of not posting anything to this blog I created for a month.
The accused stood mute and a plea was entered on his behalf by the court.
In fact, I could plead nolo contendere without too much trouble... it's been busy here.
What it's been busy with I can't go into...
A few things to put here so, if you are so inclined, you can check them out.

http://www.sonnyboo.com - Peter John Ross' filmmaker advice, tutorial, and download site. Excellent stuff.

http://www.microfilmmaker.com - Microfilmmaker Magazine, a web-based monthly that helps filmmakers on a (minimal to no) budget.

http://www.indymogul.com - Indy Mogul is a do it yourself effects filmmaker site, that helps you make the most out of the least.

http://www.takezer0.com - their slugline is "Everything you need to know before Take One."

http://www.detonationfilms.com - Stock shots of explosions, bullet hits, titanium squibs, dirt clouds, and other fun things, with many of them free. After all, nothing says "blown control panel" like a titanium squib.

http://www.creativecow.net - The Creative Communities Of the World (C.O.W.), with help and tutorials for just about any video or audio application. They want to help you be the best you can be in the new media world.

There are a few more, but I'll leave it here for now.

Cheers!

Contests of all sorts for filmmakers, screenwriters, and other film/video people are multiplying at an almost logarithmic rate. Some offer large sums of money; some offer "glory", or "access", whatever they define those terms to be.
One new contest says, "If your script wins, we'll produce it. Period."
That's an interesting take on it.
When I know more, I'll post again on it.
Cheers!
